39歳にまもなくなる．．．彼は引退する。よくも悪くも影響力が最もあったサイクリストであり．．．私の自転車に乗るきっかけであった選手である。あまりにもアメリカ的な選手であったし．．．疑惑も多い。いまだ疑惑であるから．．．クリーンである。
一回目の引退コメントは何度も何度も聞き返した。あの時はまだやれるだろう！と思いなら聴いていた。現役選手として力強さすら感じる引退コメントであったと思う。
自転車ファンLance Armstrongに飽きていたことも事実であるが．．．7連覇はやりすぎだったかもしれないｗ
2回目の引退コメントは普通の人間になった．．．そんな印象をもつ。彼も人間なのだな．．．そう思った。
来年オーストラリアに Tour Down Under 観戦に行こうと密かに．．．計画中であるが．．．

Finally, the last thing I’ll say to the people who don’t believe in cycling, the cynics and the skeptics: I'm sorry for you. I’m sorry that you can’t dream big. I'm sorry you don't believe in miracles. But this is one hell of a race. This is a great sporting event and you should stand around and believe it. You should believe in these athletes, and you should believe in these people. I'll be a fan of the Tour de France for as long as I live. And there are no secrets — this is a hard sporting event and hard work wins it. So Vive le Tour forever!”
2回目の引退発表後のツール最終日パリでのコメント
This race has been good to me but I can’t lie, I'm ready to retire part two. I was just glad that three weeks of suffering is over and I get to go home. I don't have to stress about racing every day. I have a lot of happiness, a lot of good memories, just a lot of good times here.”
